How did the process of hiring a Western Student work for you?
The partnership that Trojan Technologies has with Western has played an important role in our recruitment strategy. The process for posting, reviewing and organizing interviews is simple and effective. This helps build the foundation for a successful match between Trojan and the candidate. We have found some of our current associates through the internship program which is a proof of the success that come out of the intern program. It can be a great benefit to both the company and the student.
What skills and abilities from Western students do you value most?
In Engineering at Trojan Technologies, we value students that are self-motivated and eager to learn. In regards to technical, we require students with a mix of strong analytical skills combined with good practical abilities. It is important to be able to work at any stage of the design process from conceptual design to prototyping to fabrication drawings. Also, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment are very important.
What benefits have you experienced from hiring Western students for co-op, internship and practicum opportunities?
The Western students come with skills that enable them to quickly become productive members of the engineering team. As 3rd year students, their knowledge enables them to effectively contribute and provide innovative solutions. Our team benefits from their fresh ideas and willingness to learn new tools and processes. They bring theory and analytical methods to solving problems.

Over the past 2 years, we have had great success with our Engineering Interns from Western. They come with solid skills that can be applied very quickly within the design team. The students bring new ideas and perspectives and are strong contributing member to the team. Also, it gives us the opportunity to evaluate new talent for future employment at Trojan.
