Why Host an Information Session?

Hosting an information session allows you to promote your paid employment opportunities (work integrated learning and new graduate), and easily identify potential candidates for current and future hiring.

In-Person Information Session Package - $200

Host an in-person information session on campus at Western University.

We recommend that your session include a presentation that is no longer than 20-30 minutes, followed by  a question & answer session. Where you can, we encourage you to have staff that are Western alumni as students might feel more comfortable talking with them.

You will be supported by the Employer Relations Team (ERT) throughout the process, to ensure the success of your event.

This $200 package includes:

  • Booking the session
  • Room reservation
  • Promoting it on Western Connect's Event Calendar
  • Social media promotion
  • Email notifications through campus-wide weekly email and targeted emails
  • Managing your registration
  • Providing you with the registration list
  • A member of the Employer Relations Team will be present and will perform tasks such as delivering introductions and land acknowledgements, operating the presentation slides, and taking attendance
  • Parking reservation
  • We will connect you with our campus catering services (additional fees may apply for catering)

To guide you on presentation structure, we have put together a suggested format below:

  • Your company culture (2 minutes)
  • How you support professional development/growth (3 minutes)
  • Typical projects/assignments, or 'day-in-the-life' of an employee (5 minutes)
  • Your available opportunities, and what you're looking for in an applicant (7 minutes)
  • Recruitment timelines (application dates, interviews, and job offers) (2 minutes)
  • A point person they can contact should they have additional questions (1 minute)

We recommend hosting an information session in the early evening (starting at 4:30pm). We are also able to host information sessions at different times during the day (contingent on room and student availability).

Virtual Information Session Package - $200

Host a virtual information session using Zoom (Western has a corporate license).

We recommend that your session include a presentation that is no longer than 20-30 minutes, followed by question & answer and possibly, break out room sessions. You will need to have two or more staff members for this option. Where you can, we encourage you to have staff that are Western alumni, in the Zoom session, as students might feel more comfortable talking with them.

You will be supported by the Employer Relations Team (ERT) throughout the process, to ensure the success of your event.

This $200 package includes:

  • Booking the session
  • Promoting it on Western Connect's Event Calendar
  • Social media promotion
  • Email notifications through campus-wide weekly email and targeted emails
  • Managing your registration
  • Providing you with the registration list
  • A member of the Employer Relations Unit will participate in the Zoom session and will perform tasks such as delivering introductions and land acknowledgements, operating the presentation slides, administering polls, and managing breakout rooms

To guide you on presentation structure, we have put together a suggested format below:

Book Catering for Your Event

According to our post-event surveys, one of the main reasons students attend Information Sessions, is to have the opportunity to network with employers. This important connection moment could help you identify potential talents. Why not enhance your chances to better connect with students over refreshments?

  • Food works well as a jumping off point to start a conversation
  • After a long day of classes and study, refreshments can provide the energy and sustenance a student needs to be at their best in a conversation.

View the Great Hall Catering menu. You must order at least 2 business days in advance of your session.

Once you are ready to place your order, call (519)-661-3048 or email great.hall.catering@uwo.ca. You will be invoiced separately by Great Hall Catering for your order.

Please note that external food and drink from providers outside of campus is not permitted.

Job Postings

Don’t forget that many students will be searching for jobs on Western Connect.  Consider posting the position you are recruiting for in advance to deepen their interest and engagement with your organization. It’s a great idea to include a description of your company with links to your website, as well as the detailed information about your session once it has been confirmed.

The Gazette

The Gazette is Western’s student news outlet. To advertise your upcoming information session, please contact The Gazette at 519-661-3579 or adoffice@uwo.ca.

Radio ads

Another method of advertising is through the on-campus student-run radio station. Please contact Radio Western directly.

Social Media

If your organization has an Instagram, Facebook, and/or Twitter account, we encourage you to advertise your Information Session there! Please also let our team about your posts (hirewesternu@uwo.ca), as we can re-share your posts to our Student Experience social accounts.

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization at Information Sessions

Connect with Equity-Deserving Students

We will work with EDID Support Offices (Accessible Education, Indigenous Student Centre, Western International etc.) to ensure that there is representation from equity-deserving students from Western at information sessions.

Western has over 200 student groups, organizations, and clubs as well as an active Graduate Student Society, many of which are centered on diverse identities such as race, culture, gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, ability status, and more. We will work with these student groups on campus to ensure that there is representation from equity-deserving students from Western at information sessions.

If there are specific communities, populations, or student groups that you would like to reach out to for events or employment opportunities, please let us know and we will do our best to facilitate a connection. Please note that each student group has different mandates and their goals may vary year to year. Student clubs may choose the opportunities that they participate in or promote at their own discretion.

Inclusive Student Attire for Information Sessions

Western values and respects the rich culture and experiences of its students, and understands that traditional dress codes can limit students' ability to express their whole selves. We wish to empower students to embody their professional identity in a way that is true to them, and encourage students to present themselves in a way that is not limiting to their identities.

Students are advised NOT to:

  • Change their natural hair texture
  • Remove or re-style any religious symbols or headwear (or adapt religious dress)
  • Adapt to gender binaries
  • Remove piercings
